What is nanopositioning and where is the technology used?

At Queensgate, we’ve been pioneering the design, development and manufacturing of advanced nanopositioning systems for almost 50 years.

By definition, ‘nanopositioning’ means moving a device or instrument to sub-micron levels of accuracy and holding it in place. Often a nanopositioning system will be designed to produce repeatable, high precision movement in increments of one nanometer or less, over a distance of a few microns.

Achieving movements with this level of precision relies on piezoelectric technology – where an electric field is used to make a quartz crystal expand or contract.
